Both the Embry-Riddle and Benedictine-Mesa men’s basketball teams kept pace with each other all through the first half of Wednesday’s contest, with the Redhawks going into halftime up by two points. But in the second half, the Eagles overtook them and started to pull away to get the 77-71 victory.
Jacey Canalin netted 17 points. Both Demari Hackett and Peter Dress recorded 13 points and five rebounds. Noah Gifft put up eleven points, and David Teibo compiled six points and eight rebounds.
The win puts Embry-Riddle’s overall record at 9-13 on the season and 4-5 in GSAC play.
It was also a successful night on the hardwood for the Riddle women. They jumped out to a 25-7 first-quarter lead and never let up as they erased Ben-Mesa 66-45. Mehgan Strickler notched 14 points. Jordyn Smith put up ten points. Zakiirah King just missed a double-double as she registered nine points and nine rebounds.
The Lady Eagles are 9-13 overall and 4-6 in GSAC play.
