A new wildland fire was discovered around 3 p.m. on Monday southeast of Mount Union. Fire officials have named it the Brady Fire. The fire was burning off of Pine Flats Road, approximately 6 to 7 miles west of Mayer. The fire is estimated at 400 acres in size with zero percent containment. No structures have been damaged by the fire.
Residents of Pine Flats zones YCU-2174B and YCU-2216 were evacuated around 4:40 p.m. Monday through Genasys Protect. Mayer High School is being used as a shelter for evacuees. Also, County Road 177 is closed at the Mayer Cemetery going toward the fire.
Sheltering for barn animals is available at Arizona Downs, located at 10445 County Fair Trail in Prescott Valley provided by Large Animal Sheltering and Emergency Readiness (LASER).
Forest Service spokesman Ansgar Mitchell says wildfires at this time of year should come as no surprise:
A storm will come through Mayer Wednesday, and Mitchell says he doesn’t know if that will be good or bad for those working the Brady Fire:
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
