Prescott PD Puts Out Scam Alert for Fake Cops

A rash of scams has occurred in the Prescott area. The Prescott Police Department reports that citizens have been receiving calls from scammers posing as law enforcement officers or deputies. They have been claiming citizens have a warrant out for their arrest and can only avoid an arrest by sending Bitcoin or gift cards as payment.

The Prescott Police Department wants to alert citizens that law enforcement will never call demanding payment to avoid arrest, and that if anyone asks for gift cards, immediate payment, or payment by Bitcoin, it is likely a scam.

Police state that if you receive such a call, you should hang up immediately, and if you have fallen victim to a call, please notify your local law enforcement agency to file a report.
