Prescott Area Rep Nguyen Sponsors Bill to Crack Down on Foreign Intimidation

Prescott area state representative Quang Nguyen wants to make sure foreign agents are not intimidating people living in Arizona. He sponsored HB 2374, which would strengthen penalties for crimes committed by foreign agents and prohibits unauthorized foreign law enforcement activities within the state. It also directs the Arizona Department of Public Safety to develop a training program to help law enforcement identify and respond to transnational repression.

In a release from his office, Nguyen pointed out an incident from 2023 in which two men were arrested trying to set up a secret police station connected to the Chinese Communist Party in New York City to monitor and harass dissidents living in the United States.

Nguyen says, “I fled communist Vietnam as a child, so I know firsthand the devastating impact of government repression. No one in Arizona—no one in America—should have to live in fear of harassment, intimidation, or assault by foreign agents.”
