Prescott National Forest officials want to hear from the public regarding clean-up operations at the Gold Bullion Mine site.
The abandoned mine is located near Cherry. An investigation determined that past mining operations left behind more than 1,400 cubic yards of mine waste material containing heavy metals that pose a potential risk to human health and the environment. Dilapidated wooden structures, open mine features, concrete foundations, and an open water well also pose safety hazards.
The public can provide comments on the clean-up effort by emailing hailey.stock@usda.gov. The deadline to submit comments is April 25th.
