Prescott fire crews successfully located three hikers and their dog at Watson Lake after dark on Wednesday evening. The group became disoriented and was unable to find their way back to the parking lot after their flashlight went dead and their cell phone battery was nearly depleted.
They were able to call 9-1-1, where dispatchers relayed their phone’s GPS coordinates to the fire department’s tactical rescue team, who located them using drone technology.
This advanced tool allows the fire department personnel to quickly and efficiently locate those in need, especially in challenging terrain. The Prescott Fire Department utilizes drones for search and rescue operations to enhance public safety.
