On February 13, two individuals were seen trespassing on the Town of Prescott Valley’s Summit 1 water tank, located on Glassford Hill.
While there were no signs of tampering with the water, due to the potential for contamination, the water tank was immediately isolated from the rest of the system. The tank has since been emptied of its 1 million gallons of water and inspected for any signs of tampering or foreign debris.
Law enforcement found no evidence the water had been tampered with. The tank was refilled and introduced back into the water system on February 24. The town estimates the cost of the water to be between $3,500 and $7,200, varying based on the differing rates between residential and commercial customers.
Police say all other well sites and water tanks were inspected for signs of tampering. No evidence was found, and police say this does appear to be an isolated incident.
The trespassing remains an ongoing investigation. Law enforcement asks that anyone with additional information reach out to the Prescott Valley Police Department at 928-772-9267.
