Film Industry More Active in Prescott

The local film industry is getting a major boost thanks to the Prescott Area Filmmakers Alliance, or PAFA. Formed in January 2023 with just 13 members, this all-volunteer group has grown to over 160 filmmakers, according to co-founder Dennis Tuberty, including writers, directors, actors, musicians, stunt coordinators, editors – even a military film advisor.

In 2024, Prescott averaged two productions a month including commercial campaigns, short films, independent films, and television segments, bringing in over $300,000 to local businesses, according to Prescott Film Commissioner, Samara Rice. Recent films like Wish Man and Frontier Crucible have filmed here, hiring local crew and extras, and spending money on lodging, food, and rentals.

PAFA also partners with Yavapai College, local high schools, and the Arizona Film Commission – and one of their goals is to bring a state-of-the-art independent film studio to Prescott. They host a free monthly meeting on the second Monday of every month at 6 p.m. at the Western Heritage Center located at 156C South Montezuma Street.
