Fishing Season Underway in Yavapai County

Fishing season is officially open in Yavapai County, and local lakes near Prescott are ready to welcome anglers of all ages. The season runs from May 1st through October 31st, and with five lakes within a 20-minute drive of Prescott, there’s no shortage of opportunities to cast a line.

Lynx Lake, Goldwater Lake, Granite Basin, Watson, and Willow Lakes are all open to the public and regularly stocked—especially with rainbow trout—thanks to the Arizona Game and Fish Department. Some lakes, like Watson and Willow, also offer warm-water species including bass, crappie, and catfish.

It’s important to remember that a valid Arizona fishing license is required for anyone 10 years of age or older. And keep in mind: the lower section of Goldwater Lake is catch-and-release only.

Community efforts like “Badges & Bobbers,” which took place last weekend at Fain Park, are helping bring families out to enjoy the outdoors. Plus, the statewide AZ Bass Challenge is encouraging anglers to try for all five bass species found in Arizona.
