New Law Aimed to Protect Children from Harmful Apps

Yavapai County parents can feel a little more at ease with the apps their children are using. Governor Katie Hobbs signed House Bill 2195 into law. This aims to protect kids from inappropriate advertising on digital apps. The measure, which had bipartisan support, requires app platforms to block ads featuring violence, explicit language, sexual content, or drugs in child-directed apps.

The law applies to apps marketed primarily to children eleven and under, and companies that fail to comply could face civil penalties up to $100,000 per violation. The Arizona Attorney General will handle enforcement.

The new law goes into effect January 1, 2026.
