Yesterday. communities across the nation observed Peace Officer Memorial Day, honoring law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty.
According to Officer Down Memorial Page, more than 26,900 officers have fallen while serving since records began. So far in 2025, 25 officers have been killed in the line of duty across the United States.
Here in Arizona, 291 law enforcement officers have lost their lives in state history. Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office has lost six deputies. Yavapai County Constable’s Office has lost one officer, and Jerome Police Department has lost two officers.
The Prescott Police Department lost Chief Kenneth D. Lindley, who died in an automobile crash in 1971.
The Yavapai County Fallen Officer Memorial on the town square honors our local law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty, listing their names and dates of death.
Peace Officer Memorial Day, established in 1962 by President John F. Kennedy, is part of National Police Week – a time to not only remember those who gave their lives, but also to recognize the continued service and sacrifice of officers nationwide.
