The Story Teller sculpture is making its return to Black Canyon City. It was created in 1995 by local artist Wesley “Smitty” Smith, who transformed a 25-foot gas tank into the iconic Kokopelli-inspired sculpture. The art piece was damaged during a powerful microburst in April of last year.
The re-dedication ceremony takes place Thursday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Black Canyon City Community Library. It will feature a color guard, refreshments, and remarks from county officials.
A new plaque on the sculpture will honor Smitty’s legacy and the community’s effort to preserve its cultural heritage.
