A pair of Chino Valley families want the death penalty off the table for an accused murderer.
Family members of Elissa Landry and David Batten told Yavapai County officials they want to see a plea deal accepted that doesn’t involve capital punishment. They argued giving suspect Mitchell Mincks two natural life sentences without parole would be enough to keep the public safe.
Mincks was charged with first degree murder after Landry and Batten were found dead in Iowa in 2020. He became a person of interest as he was Landry’s boyfriend at the time.
Mincks is due in court in August.
