Race Across America Comes Through Prescott

If you saw a long line of cyclists pedaling through Prescott last Sunday – no, it wasn’t just your local bike club.

They were part of RAAM – the Race Across America – one of the world’s toughest endurance cycling events.

Starting in Oceanside, California, RAAM stretches more than 3,000 miles across the United States, climbs over 175,000 feet, and winds through 13 states before finishing on the boardwalk in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Riders passed through Prescott on their way from Congress to Jerome, pushing through Arizona’s high desert as part of their cross-country journey.

Open to both amateurs and professionals, RAAM features solo racers as well as 2-, 4-, and 8-person relay teams. Competitors come from around the world and from all walks of life, drawn to the extreme challenge and spirit of the race.

This year marks another chapter in a race that’s been testing human limits since 1982.
