The fire danger in the Prescott National Forest is back up to very high. It was moderate last week. This is due to most of Yavapai County being in severe drought. In addition, the county government has enacted Stage Two fire restrictions for Zone Two, encompassing Sedona and parts of the Verde Valley. Other parts of the county, including the Prescott National Forest, are under Stage One fire restrictions.
Everyone is urged to be careful with anything that can produce a flame or a spark. If you smoke, make sure to properly discard your cigarettes. Do not throw them into grass or brush. When driving, check that no chains are dragging from your vehicle as they can throw out sparks.
Also, do not park on grass, as the heat from under your vehicle can ignite the vegetation. It’s also a good idea to clear excess brush and vegetation from around your home to create defensible space in the event of a wildfire.
As a reminder, most of northern Arizona is under a fire weather watch through Saturday due to low humidity and high winds.
