After funding was tied up for two years, the City of Prescott is now ready to make upgrades to the rodeo grounds.
Deputy City Manager Michael Morris says they’re in the process of identifying priorities for the facility’s infrastructure, which is nearly 100 years old:
The costs will likely top the $15.3 million dollars allocated by the state legislature. The allocation was made to Prescott Frontier Days, the rodeo’s operator in 2023, and challenged by some residents as a violation of the state’s gift clause. During this last session, lawmakers gave the money to the city, which owns the grounds, and it became part of the budget signed by the governor.
Morris says the rodeo has a significant economic impact for the city, adding it’s part of the culture of Prescott.
