Kirkland Fire Holds at 923 Acres

Fire crews kept the Kirkland Fire from spreading. Officials with the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management report the wildfire is holding at 923 acres, and is now 40 percent contained.

The blaze broke out on Friday when Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office officials say a man driving a damaged pickup truck had sparks coming off the metal rim of his blown-out tire. That resulted in several roadside fires, which grew into the Kirkland Fire. He was arrested shortly after the incident.

Forestry and Fire Management spokeswoman Tiffany Davila says this shows something her department has said for a while:

The 100 personnel assigned to the fire will have to deal with high heat, and very dry and windy conditions today. Davila says the monsoon needs to come:

The Hillside and Yava communities were on set status for evacuation, but that was lifted Monday.
