The Kirkland Fire is no longer growing. Officials with the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management report the wildfire remains at 913 acres in size and is now 70 percent contained. Most of the fire activity is contained to the western and northwestern flanks.
The blaze began last Friday when a man driving on a blown-out tire resulted in sparks being generated by the metal rim. That caused several roadside fires to start, which grew into the Kirkland Fire. The man was arrested by the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office.
