It appears fire crews have the Kirkland Fire under control. Officials with the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management say a week after it started, the blaze remains at 913 acres in size and is now 80 percent contained. Fire officials, however, are worried that low humidity and wind gusts could start new flare-ups.
The cause of the fire was a man driving on a blown-out tire, which resulted in sparks from the metal rim starting several roadside fires. That driver was arrested by the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office.
