The Prescott Police Department is warning seniors to beware of calls, texts, or e-mails from people claiming to be from a government agency. There is a growing wave of scammers who say they are from a known government agency who use fake security alerts and other false alarms to prey on older adults’ vigilance about protecting their money. Some senior citizens report they have emptied their bank accounts and even cleared out their 401(k)s because of these scams.
If you get such a message, do not respond to it, and do not give any financial or personal information to people you don’t know. If you are the victim of a scam, call your local law enforcement agency.
