The Yavapai College women’s soccer team began the Snow College Invitational – and the season – with a close 1-0 win over Northwest College Thursday. Saturday the Lady Riders finished the tournament with a dominating performance. They overpowered Western Nebraska 6-0.
Sophia Fottrell notched two goals for Y-C. Jill Young, Gracey Fowlkes, Reagan Peterson, and Bethanee Vargas each registered a goal. Yavapai also had five assists by five different players; Chino Valley grad Mari Holladay, Kara Donegan, Mia Howser, Morgan McLane, and Nataly Arangure. Poppy Anderson made three saves in goal.
The Lady Riders are home for two games this week. Tuesday, they face Scottsdale College at Prescott’s Ken Lindley Field. Then on Friday, Y-C hosts Laramie County College, where Prescott alum Laney Lucas now plays.
