City of Prescott officials say rumors have been circulating that Watson Lake is unsafe to swim in due to heavy metal and sewage contamination. Officials denied this claim, and reported swimming in the lake is prohibited because of algae blooms.
They say the blue green algae that blooms during the summer produces toxins that are irritating to the skin and digestive system. These effects are more pronounced in small people and animals.
Officials assure the public all lakes are tested on a monthly basis to determine any public health concerns.
