PVPD Spells Out Rules for E-Bike Use

The Prescott Valley Police Department reminds residents to operate powered bicycles safely and know the laws surrounding them. Police officials say electric, motorized, and gas-powered bicycles fall under the normal bicycle category as long as they remain under the maximum power and speed requirements.

E-bikes must remain under 750 watts of power, and gas-powered bikes must have a 48cc engine or less. Officials say that if the bike remains under these standards, it does not need to be registered, titled, or insured, and no license is required to operate it. All bicycles that fall under these categories are also approved for use on any bike paths.

Not all electric bikes are permitted for use on paths. PVPD spokeswoman Desiree Kelly tells The News:
