A Yavapai County Jail inmate will spend an extra 20 years behind bars after authorities uncovered a series of criminal plots he orchestrated while incarcerated.
Thirty-six-year-old Levi Jones, of Phoenix, was already facing murder charges when deputies began investigating him in 2017. Detectives discovered Jones had been planning a murder-for-hire attempt and tried to intimidate witnesses.
He allegedly offered to forgive a fellow inmate’s prison debt in exchange for killing a co-defendant witness. He also provided personal details of other witnesses, encouraging violent intimidation to alter their testimony.
Jones was convicted of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder and promoting prison contraband.
Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office officials praised detectives and detention staff for their persistence in stopping the plot and protecting the justice process.
