A Yavapai County Sheriff’s deputy rescued a stranded ATV rider near Black Canyon City last Monday after the man became dehydrated in remote terrain west of town.
Officials say the rider was separated from his group while trying to cross the Agua Fria River near Gillette. When his ATV broke down, he got disoriented and called for help.
Using a topographical map and a pickup patrol truck, the deputy navigated rough terrain to reach the rider, who was then taken to the Daisy Mountain Fire Station for evaluation.
Sheriff’s Office spokesman Paul Wick tells The News:
The ATV rider was later released. YCSO officials remind riders to stay within groups and always be prepared for emergencies in the back country.
