Prescott Area Congressman Crane Gets NAU to End Partnership with Chinese University

Northern Arizona University is ending a dual-degree program with a Chinese university after it was flagged in a congressional report as a national security risk. This comes following a letter Prescott-area Congressman Eli Crane sent to the university urging administrators to review and terminate the program.

The partnership with Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications came under scrutiny last month in a report by two House committees, which warned that some U.S.–China educational ties could be used to advance Chinese military interests. NAU has stopped student recruitment and begun terminating its agreement with the Chinese institution.

Crane praised NAU for taking what he called a responsible step to protect U.S. interests and maintain the integrity of American higher education.
