YC Men’s Soccer Beats AZ Western on PKs in Region Semi-Finals

In their two regular season meetings, the Yavapai College men’s soccer team lost to #6 ranked Arizona Western both times. On Tuesday night, both teams squared off for the third time in 2025 in the Region One semi-finals.

It looked like it would once again be the Matadors’ night as they took an early 2-0 lead. Andres Pulido drew the Roughriders to within one with a goal late in the first half. Roughly halfway through the second half, Cesar Augusto Oliveria de Silva notched the equalizer. That sent the game into overtime, then into a shootout. YC failed on the first two penalty kicks, but made the next five in a row, with Bradshaw Mountain grad Jair Montoya getting the final one to give the Roughriders the 5-4 win in the PK phase.
