There were no classes at Chino Valley High School on Friday, but there were plenty of police and paramedics on campus. They were part of an active shooter exercise put on by the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office. The drill was designed to enhance the preparedness and coordinated response of law enforcement and local medical personnel in the event of a critical incident.
YCSO deputies and detectives were deployed to the high school to practice established protocols for neutralizing a threat, clearing the premises, and ensuring the safety of students and faculty. The exercise was designed to test response times, communication, and tactical procedures in a high-stress environment.
Local nurses and emergency medical technicians participated, setting up a triage area and simulating on-site medical care for mock victims.
