Prescribed Fire in Blue Hills Area

Prescott National Forest crews are conducting another prescribed fire, this one in the Blue Hills area near Prescott Valley. Fire managers say ignitions are set for Wednesday and Thursday. The purpose of the burn is to reduce hazardous fuels and help prevent future wildfires.

The Blue Hills Prescribed Burn is located just south of Old Black Canyon Highway and the Stone Ridge communities. Several trails should be avoided for safety, including Green Gulch, Charcoal Gulch, Nemo Springs, and Red Mountain trails.

Smoke may be visible from Prescott Valley, Dewey-Humboldt, Mayer, Highway 69, and Highway 169. Residents are asked to use caution and avoid trails near active operations.
