On paper, it looked like it should be a pretty even match. Reality, however, turned out to be much different.
The number nine ranked Prescott volleyball team was in Cave Creek last night taking on number eight Cactus Shadows in the first round of the 4A Conference State Tournament. The Lady Badgers established an early lead in the first set, only to have the Lady Falcons go on a 14–2 run and win it 25–14. Set two saw the score tied 18–18 when Cactus Shadows rattled off seven unanswered points to win 25–18. In set three, the score was tied 13–13 when Cactus Shadows went on another big run to win it 25–17 and take the match 3–0.
“The Gem” Ruby Jensen tallied nine kills for Prescott, while Leah Jolley notched five kills. Libby Hlavacek had two ace serves.
The loss ends the season for the Lady Badgers. Cactus Shadows moves on to the Elite Eight of state, where they will face number one Salpointe Catholic Monday.
