People need to be extra careful in the Prescott National Forest. Officials with the Forest Service report the fire danger is now listed as high. Last week, the fire danger was moderate.
Everyone is urged to be careful with anything that can produce a flame or a spark in order to prevent a wildfire from breaking out. If you smoke, make sure to properly discard your cigarettes. Do not throw them into grass or brush. If you go camping, make sure your campfire is completely out and ashes are cool to the touch before you leave.
When driving, check that no chains are dragging from your vehicle as they can throw out sparks. Also, do not park on grass, as the heat from under your vehicle can ignite the vegetation. It’s also a good idea to clear excess brush and vegetation from around your home to create defensible space in the event of a wildfire.
Rain is forecast for the Tri-City area over the next few days, so hopefully that will reduce the chances of a wildfire.
