Yavapai College to Use AI in Hiring Process

Yavapai College is turning to artificial intelligence to streamline hiring and help students sharpen their job-interview skills. College officials say the Human Resources Department has begun using Brain Trust AI Recruiter, an AI-driven platform designed to conduct job interviews. The move comes as YC, like many institutions, adopts a range of AI tools to support campus operations.

Dr. Richard Pierce, the college’s Information Technology Systems Relationship Manager, said the college began evaluating the AI recruiter back in February. The Brain Trust platform conducts online interviews through systems such as Zoom or Teams. College officials report applicants are informed that they are speaking to an AI interviewer. Pierce says the college intends to support hiring efficiency and to give students a low-stakes environment to practice interviews.

College officials say Human Resources Chief Officer Dr. Janet Nix tested the technology, posing as a job applicant, and was quickly convinced of its potential. The HR department officially started using the system at the beginning of November.

Under the new system, every first-screen applicant will complete an AI-conducted interview. Hiring managers will receive a scorecard and a recording of each session to review before moving applicants forward. YC officials say they’ll continue monitoring results as the technology becomes part of both hiring and student preparation across campus.
