Fire managers on the Prescott National Forest plan to begin prescribed fire operations next week in the Prescott Basin, with ignitions possibly starting Monday, December 8.
The burns, primarily pile burning, are part of ongoing efforts to reduce hazardous fuels from recent thinning projects on the Bradshaw Ranger District.
Fire activity could continue through January 2026, depending on weather conditions and agency approvals. Recent rainfall has created favorable conditions for burning. Smoke may be visible from Prescott, Prescott Valley, Wilhoit, Chino Valley, and Dewey-Humboldt. Light impacts are expected, though smoke may settle in low-lying areas at night.
Visitors should use caution near burn areas and watch for fire traffic. For details, contact the Bradshaw Ranger District at 928-443-8000 or visit fire.airnow.gov.
