A hiker who fell 40 feet down Loy Canyon following a rockfall was rescued by the Sedona Fire Department.
Units were dispatched to the canyon near Deadman’s Pass Wednesday afternoon. The challenging terrain prevented ground access, so a DPS Ranger helicopter was called in.
A DPS crew member was inserted by chopper to reach the injured climber. A Sedona Fire rescue technician was also lowered to assist with treatment and extraction.
The patient was hoisted out and airlifted to Flagstaff Medical Center. The rescue took four-and-a-half hours to complete.
