As the holiday season continues, officials with Yavapai County Emergency Management remind residents to maintain fire safety.
They say residents should keep candles 12 inches away from anything that burns, consider flameless, battery-operated candles, read manufacturer instructions for light strands, and ensure trees are kept 3 feet from heat sources.
They report one in three decoration fires are started by candles, and one in five tree fires are started because the tree was too close to a heat source.
