YCSO Cleaning up Messes Left Behind by Squatters

In recent years, the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office has worked to remove squatters and people who have overstayed their permit on state trust lands. YCSO officials say the maximum allowed is 14 days, and some have overstayed their permits by weeks, months, and sometimes even longer. Many leave behind trash and entire trailers when they do eventually leave.

In an effort to keep state lands clean, YCSO has worked both with a volunteer organization called “Trash Dogs” and with the supervised inmate program. YCSO officials say the program allows inmates to give back to the community and have an opportunity for outdoor work.
