It’s getting much colder at night, and many Tri-City area residents will be using space heaters for extra warmth. But officials with the Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority want to make sure they are used safely.
Space heaters should always be placed on a flat, stable surface, at least three feet away from anything that can burn such as furniture, bedding, and curtains.
Heaters should be plugged directly into a wall outlet and never into an extension cord or power strip, as that can overheat and start a fire.
You should also turn off heaters and unplug them when leaving the room or going to bed.
