If the New Year’s resolution of the Chino Valley girls basketball team was to be successful in their first games of 2026, they accomplished that goal. The Lady Cougars were in the Queen Creek area Friday and Saturday for the Epic Tourneys Classic.
They began the tournament with a 26-20 victory over San Pasqual. Brooke Baziuk registered 14 points. Chino followed that up with another win, 43-20 over Lincoln Prep. Baziuk was the Lady Cougars’ leading scorer again, this time with 19 points.
Game three of the tournament was a loss for Chino, 32-18 to Florence. The Lady Cougars wrapped up their weekend action with a 57-51 victory over Globe. Baziuk notched 23 points and Annabelle Mazzella posted 17 points. That gave Chino Valley a third-place finish at the tournament.
The Lady Cougars are back in action tomorrow when they host Highland Prep.
