Two infants were rescued from a dangerous situation on New Year’s Eve in Congress after a call to the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office.
Just before 6 a.m. on December 31st, a man called dispatch saying he had to go to work and mentioned children were left in the house. A YCSO deputy called him back and learned the man was the father of two one-year-old infants.
The deputy warned that it was his responsibility to find child care—not to leave children alone. Concerned for their safety, the deputy responded to the home immediately.
Outside, he found a generator with a cord running through a cracked front door. Inside, he found the infants strapped in car seats, directly in front of a space heater, with no adults in sight.
The Congress Fire Department responded to help move the children to a warm, safe location. An hour later, deputies found both parents, who were taken into custody.
The children were turned over to the Department of Child Safety.
Sheriff David Rhodes praised the deputy’s quick thinking, saying it was a prime example of why every call is taken seriously.
The investigation is still active.
