The Prescott City Council Tuesday reviewed a new workforce housing strategy to help essential workers afford homes amid rising prices and a retirement-heavy population.
City Councilman Ted Gambogi warned against overreaching, calling new construction “a one-trick pony” and urging a narrower focus on the most critical community members.
Mayor Pro Tem Lois Fruhwirth stressed that residents are fleeing Prescott due to high costs.
Former city councilwoman Connie Cantelme emphasized that only builders and developers can deliver solutions — but they need ways to make a profit.
Since this was a study session, no decisions were made on the matter, but council members discussed incentives like fee waivers and nonprofit partnerships.
