Prescott Area State Rep Nguyen Seeks to Protect Public Shooting Ranges

Prescott area State Representative Quang Nguyen has introduced House Bill 2763 to protect Arizona’s public shooting ranges from being quietly closed.

The Republican lawmaker, who chairs the House Judiciary Committee, says the bill would require full legislative approval through a joint resolution before the Arizona Game and Fish Commission could shut down certain state-owned ranges.

Nguyen argues that these facilities, which belong to all Arizonans, should not be closed by administrative decision alone. He stresses that without proper oversight — including public hearings and legislative input — closures could push shooting activities into unregulated areas, raising public safety and environmental concerns.

The measure comes amid concerns over potential threats to public access for firearm safety training, hunter education, and recreational shooting statewide. HB 2763 is now before the Legislature.
