1924: The first winner in the winter. American skater Charles Jewtraw won the first Winter Olympic gold medal when he placed first in the 500 meter speed skating event. The Games took place in Chamonix, France.
1960: This kid really went off on the hardwood. Danny Heater of Burnsville High School in West Virginia tallied 135 points in a 173–43 rout of Widen. That shattered the previous state single-game scoring record of 74.
1992: No dice for Buffalo again. After losing Super Bowl 25 the year before, the Bills fell to Washington in Super Bowl 26, 37–24. Buffalo would also lose the next two Super Bowls.
