Flu-Ravaged YC Men’s BKB Team Topped by Cochise

The Yavapai College men’s basketball team went into Wednesday’s match-up with Cochise under the weather in a big way. Nearly everyone on the team was suffering from the flu, or just getting over it. Still, the Roughriders got off to a quick start, going up 7-2 over the Apaches. Cochise soon jumped out in front, but YC hung with them and went into halftime trailing 30-22.

The Apaches went on a tear in the second half and the Roughriders could not keep up, losing 79-60. One of the big factors in the game: Cochise nailed 13 three-pointers, seven of them from Emmanuel Jo Samuel.

For Yavapai, Prescott alum Jason Parent posted 23 points and nine rebounds. Rudolfs Svitins notched 15 points. “The Detective” Torin Bosch put up nine points, and Tim Zoonekuynd collected six points, four rebounds, and five assists.

YC is now 11-14 on the season. They are at Eastern Arizona Saturday.
