YC Expands Housing Program

Yavapai College has made a dedicated effort to offer affordable housing to students and staff in the past several years. While the college has offered residence halls to students throughout its history, student demographics have shifted, making residence halls unrealistic for many students. To solve this issue, the college began by opening a small RV park to students and employees and later purchased and renovated a summer camp to add to their housing options.

In an effort to continue expanding housing options, the college began utilizing its construction training programs to build tiny homes. The first 10 of these homes will be installed this semester across college locations. College officials say they have also constructed 16 RV pads at its Chino Valley Center as a result of the success at the Verde Valley and Prescott Pines locations. Upon their completion, the Verde Valley campus will also offer two houses that will be shared by 24 students.
