The Prescott girls soccer team showed that rankings are not all they’re cracked up to be. The Lady Badgers came into the opening round of the 4A state tournament Tuesday as the number eleven seed. Opposite them on the pitch was number six seed Cactus Shadows, who beat Prescott 3-1 during the regular season.
None of that mattered to the Lady Badgers as they battled the Lady Falcons all through the night and pulled off the upset, final score 2-1. Jade Furr and Belle Mazon were the goal scorers for Prescott. Annabelle Courtney and Maggie Maneely dished out assists.
That sets up a rematch of Grand Canyon Region rivals in the Elite Eight of state Saturday. The Lady Badgers take on Coconino, who topped Flagstaff 4-1 Tuesday. The game takes place in Flagstaff at noon.
