Hiker Rescued from Granite Mt.

A solo hiker is safe after being rescued by the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office on Granite Mountain.

YCSO officials say deputies and the forest patrol were called to the scene Monday. They hiked into steep terrain and located the female hiker on a high ledge.

Once the weather cleared, an Arizona Department of Public Safety Ranger helicopter arrived and performed a technical extraction.

Officials say the hiker became stranded after wandering off the trail while trying to shortcut back to the parking area. She was suffering from exposure after being out in wet, chilly conditions without a jacket, but declined further medical treatment and reported no major injuries.

Sheriff’s Office officials remind hikers to stay on designated trails, warning that going straight down Granite Mountain can lead to dangerous cliffs and terrain.
