It was a very busy weekend for the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office’s search and rescue teams.
On Saturday, deputies joined the Chino Valley Police Department and responded to an off-highway vehicle rollover near Perkinsville Road and Hays Ranch Road. A 15-year-old was operating a youth-oriented side-by-side vehicle with a 12-year-old passenger when it rolled onto its side during a sharp turn. The female passenger suffered significant injuries, but they did not appear to be life-threatening. The girl was airlifted to a hospital in Phoenix for further care.
On Sunday, the sheriff’s office was involved in two rescues on opposite ends of the county. One took place at Chimney Rock in Sedona, where a climber was suspended from her rope along a cliff face. It took rescue crews six hours to lower her safely to the ground.
Later that evening, a motorist was reported missing. At first, it was thought she was driving in Crown King. But when the sheriff’s office obtained her GPS coordinates, it was determined she had been going in the opposite direction and was closer to Lake Pleasant. The motorist was found by rescue teams Monday morning and was escorted back to the interstate.
