They finished in fourth place at the NAIA national tournament. But when it comes to academics, the Embry-Riddle wrestling team placed even higher.
The National Wrestling Coaches Association released its team scholar awards for the NAIA, and the Eagles got third place. They had a team GPA of 3.51. Coming in ahead of them were Friends University in second place with a 3.58 GPA and fellow Cascade Collegiate Conference team Eastern Oregon University with a 3.66 team GPA. Rounding out the top five is University of Providence – also from the CCC – in fourth place with a GPA of 3.49, and Truett McConnell University in fifth place with a GPA of 3.48.
Embry-Riddle also demonstrated its academic prowess by having five of its wrestlers named NAIA scholar-athletes. They are Adam Stanley, Daniil Gorshkov, Jaren Kimura, Sam Humphrey, and Tauataina Tuikolongahau.
