This Day in Sports History, March 27th

1939: The first one. Oregon downed Ohio State 46–33 in the first NCAA men’s basketball national championship game. So far, that is the only naty for the Ducks in men’s basketball.

1945: The first for the Aggies. Oklahoma A&M outlasted NYU 49–44 to secure their first national championship in men’s basketball. Bob Kurland notched 22 points for the Aggies.

1962: More hardware for this netminder. Montreal’s Jacques Plante won his sixth Vezina Trophy as the NHL’s best goalie. He had 42 wins and a league-best 2.37 goals-against average.

Time to wish a happy birthday today to… former Dallas Cowboys tight end Doug Cosbie, who’s 70. Ex-Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Randall Cunningham is 63, and former San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey is 39.
