A Prescott Valley woman will spend the next half-century behind bars after being sentenced Wednesday for sexually assaulting a child.
Forty-five-year-old Kelly Rae Smith was handed a 52-year flat-time sentence by Yavapai County Superior Court Judge Krista Carman — meaning Smith must serve every day with no possibility of early release.
Smith pleaded guilty to four counts of sexual assault against a child, three counts of attempted sexual exploitation of a child, and bestiality. She was arrested in May of last year after a Prescott Valley police investigation uncovered videos of Smith sexually assaulting a toddler she had been babysitting.
County Attorney Dennis McGrane commended Prescott Valley police for their investigation, saying, “Crimes such as these are shocking and will never be tolerated in Yavapai County.”
Smith — who received credit for approximately ten months already served — will not be eligible for release until 2077, at which point she’ll face lifetime sex offender probation.
